 BIOCONTROL RELEASE | 17 JUNE 2024

Weddin Shire Council will partner with Forestry Corporation of NSW to trial the biocontrol agent, Puccinia Rapipes, in Weddin State Forest on the 17 June 2024.

This program is targeting release sites in NSW in collaboration with weed management, private landholders and stakeholders affiliated with community or other public sector groups with interests in African Boxthorn control.

CSIRO invite interested stakeholders to submit expressions of interest to participate in this biocontrol release program for African Boxthorn in NSW at boxthornbiocontrol@csiro.au  Their team will respond with further information on how to register and receive the fungus for release.

This new NSW weed biocontrol release, monitoring and evaluation program is proudly funded by the NSW Environmental Trust. The project is overseen by a consortium of representatives from CSIRO (Project Leader), NSW Department of Primary Industries and NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The pilot program precursor to this current project was supported by AgriFutures Australia and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, under the Rural R&D for Profit program. CSIRO also acknowledge previous financial support from Biosecurity South Australia (PIRSA) and the Shire of Ravensthorpe (Western Australia), and ongoing support from the NSW Environmental Trust.
