On 31 October 2024, we gathered at Taylor Park with special guests Hon. Stephen Lawrence MLC, Steph Cooke MP, Weddin Shire Councillors, and community advocate Mrs. Emily Essex to celebrate the beginning of the ‘Livvi’s Place Taylor Park’ inclusive playspace project. This milestone event marked a new chapter for Taylor Park, which will soon become a hub for play, connection, and inclusivity.

The journey began when Mrs. Essex reached out to Weddin Shire Council, highlighting the need for a playspace that could welcome children and families of all abilities. Council identified an opportunity to apply for the Stronger Country Communities Fund, enabling the transformation of Taylor Park into a truly inclusive space in partnership with the Touched by Olivia Foundation. With this funding, along with additional support from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund announced by Hon. Stephen Lawrence, we are now set to achieve 80% of the Taylor Park Masterplan, bringing new life to this community space.

The event opened with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Aunty Julie Ferguson, who will also contribute to the park’s design through unique story poles along the main walkway. Mayor Paul Best expressed gratitude to Mrs. Essex for initiating this project in 2022, and he welcomed the grant announcement from Hon. Stephen Lawrence.

Livvi’s Place at Taylor Park, part of the national network by the Touched by Olivia Foundation, will include accessible pathways, sensory play zones, and community spaces where all visitors can feel welcome.

This project is a testament to community-driven progress, local partnerships, and the commitment to making Weddin Shire an inclusive and vibrant place. Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting development unfolds!
