WEDDIN SHIRE COUNCIL COMMENCES TRANSITION TO CENTRAL WEST LIBRARIES
At the Weddin Shire Council Ordinary Council meeting held on 19 December 2024, it was resolved to transition Grenfell’s library service to Central West Libraries. This exciting decision is set to enhance library services, providing our community with increased access to resources and new opportunities for learning, engagement, and personal development. Throughout this transition Weddin residents will continue to see the same friendly staff they know and trust in the Grenfell Library, ensuring a seamless experience for the community.
Central West Libraries is a regional library service based in central west New South Wales, with branches in Blayney, Canowindra, Cowra, Forbes, Manildra, Molong and Orange. This regional library service is sponsored by Orange City Council and delivers high-quality, professional library management services across its member branches.
Aa a regional library service Central West Libraries pools the resources of member councils, allowing for shared library services across the region. By pooling resources, regional libraries can offer residents a broader range of programs, services, and materials than individual councils could do on their own. The collaborative approach also enables libraries to invest in new technologies, improve service delivery, and create a sustainable library system that benefits the entire region.
This transition to Central West Libraries offers a number of significant advantages for the Weddin community:
- Central West Libraries provides an extensive collection of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials. Our residents will now have access to an even greater variety of materials, with library members able to borrow from any library in the Central West Libraries network.
- Through Central West Libraries, residents of all ages will have access to a broader range of educational, cultural, and recreational programs. Central West Libraries expertise in delivering engaging workshops, literacy programs, youth services, and community events will help meet the diverse needs of our community.
- By joining a regional library service, Weddin Shire Council will benefit from shared resources and infrastructure, ensuring the long-term sustainability of our library service.
Mayor Paul Best expressed enthusiasm for the transition, saying, "This move to Central West Libraries represents an exciting step forward for our community. The partnership will provide enhanced resources, a wider array of programs, and greater access to modern library services. We are proud to be joining this dynamic regional library service, and we look forward to the positive impact it will have for the residents of Weddin Shire."
Further details about the transition, including an exact date, will be shared with the community in the coming weeks. All Grenfell Library members will be fully supported through the transition, ensuring their library experience remains as smooth and enjoyable as ever.
