All WEDDIN RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ELIGIBLE FOR $1500
SATELLITE INTERNET SUBSIDY(PDF, 536KB)

All Weddin Shire residents and businesses are set to benefit from an extension to the Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) Satellite Internet Subsidy Program. The program supports access to internet coverage via the LEO satellite internet network. Residents may be more familiar with LEO Satellite Internet under its commercial name of Starlink.

From today, 8 August 2024, all Weddin Shire residents and businesses, including those in Grenfell, can apply to the program and receive a subsidy of up to $1500, to cover costs associated with the purchase and installation of a LEO satellite internet connection. The subsidy is for both brand new and existing LEO satellite internet connections.

The scope of the subsidy remains unchanged, people can apply to the program and receive a subsidy of up to $1500, to cover costs associated with the satellite dish, hardware such as router, adapter, mounts and cables and associated installation costs. The program will end when the funds are exhausted, or 18 October 2024, whichever comes first.

Mayor Craig Bembrick stated “I am thrilled to announce this extension to the LEO Satellite Internet Subsidy Program. This program has already supported 110 local homes with access to high speed internet. I’m excited that the program has now been expanded so residents of Grenfell and the business community can benefit from what has been a really successful initiative”.

“The majority of the Weddin Shire, suffered from poor internet coverage which limits resident’s ability to capitalise on the opportunities that come from reliable high speed internet, including social, health and economic opportunities. This program is helping address the digital divide in our community” continued Mayor Bembrick.
